Efficiency Enhancement in Perfume and Flavor Production with Fricke’s Multiplex System
A comprehensive automation solution for Silesia combining flexibility, precision, and efficiency
In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, driven by technological advancements and ever-changing market conditions, digital transformation plays a pivotal role. Companies that fail to adapt and modernize their production processes risk losing their competitive edge. This is especially true in the perfume and flavor industry, where the complexity of requirements has increased due to stricter quality assurance measures and shifting consumer preferences. To remain competitive, companies must streamline their processes to ensure both product quality and reduced production costs. Against this backdrop, the Multiplex system developed by Fricke, an engineering specialist based in Minden, has emerged as a groundbreaking automation solution.
The system offers full automation of all production steps, from precise dosing to filling and cleaning of mixing containers. With continuous process monitoring and documentation, the system ensures seamless batch traceability and consistent product quality - a critical aspect in perfume and flavor production. Its modular design allows it to flexibly adapt to production requirements, accommodating unique batches in small and large quantities (ranging from 1 kilogram to 4 tons). Beyond its technical capabilities, the Multiplex system provides clear benefits for workplace organization: the high degree of automation reduces the likelihood of errors and improves working conditions for employees. “Optimizing our customers' production processes is essential to us,” emphasizes Bernd Fricke, Managing Director at Fricke Abfülltechnik GmbH & Co. KG. “This philosophy is reflected in every component of our systems.”
Gaining Time and Focusing on Core Competencies through Outsourcing
Silesia, a leading manufacturer of flavors for the food and beverage industry, has embraced this challenge. With a broad portfolio of high-quality flavors and a strong focus on innovation and quality, Silesia serves customers worldwide. To meet increasing demands and growing market needs, Silesia invested in the state-of-the-art Multiplex system from Fricke. This system offers a cutting-edge automation solution, combining flexibility, precision, and efficiency.
Following a successful Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at Fricke in Minden, the Multiplex system was expertly disassembled, transported, and reassembled at Silesia’s site in Neuss. By outsourcing this process to Nürmont Installations GmbH & Co. KG, an experienced specialist in the assembly and logistics of industrial plants, Fricke gained a significant time advantage.
Sebastian Roth, Project Manager at Fricke, emphasizes the importance of strong partnerships in the digitalization of production processes: “Industrial transformation requires robust partnerships to ensure efficiency and flexibility for our customers.” Thanks to the collaboration with Nürmont, the system was quickly disassembled, transported, and installed at Silesia, accelerating its commissioning at the new site. This approach saved significant time for both parties: while Nürmont managed the logistical and technical challenges, Fricke could concentrate on its core competencies - designing and developing automated dosing and filling systems.
This complex project required meticulous planning. In Minden, all system components were broken down into transportable units and carefully labeled. The cabling, in particular, was a challenge: with 1,000 different color codes ensuring seamless and error-free electrical installation at the new location. The transportation of the production line, involving around 26 truck trips, demanded not only logistical precision but also specialized equipment. In Neuss, a 90-ton crane was used to lift the systems onto a 6-meter-high platform and position them in the designated areas within the building.
The collaboration between Fricke and Nürmont was based on close coordination from the outset. Both companies provided mechanical and electrical supervisors who guided the project from planning to commissioning. This intensive cooperation minimized interface issues and ensured smooth operations. The challenge of positioning the systems on the elevated platform in Neuss was overcome using forklifts and compact floor transport vehicles. Sebastian Roth highlights: “Direct coordination among all project participants on-site was crucial for the efficient and error-free commissioning of the system. The precision and speed in disassembly and reassembly were particularly impressive.”
Tobias Hahn, Sales Manager at Nürmont, and Andreas Gwiasdowski, Project Manager at Nürmont, confirm the successful collaboration: “This project was a prime example of successful collaboration between two strong partners. Combining our expertise in mechanical engineering with Fricke’s industry knowledge led to a smooth workflow and successful project completion.”
The project was completed within the scheduled timeframe of 10 weeks. For Silesia, the swift and professional relocation of the Multiplex system allowed for a rapid production start at their Neuss facility. The partnership between Fricke and Nürmont not only ensured smooth operations but also enabled Fricke to focus on other projects while Nürmont handled the complex relocation requirements.
Outlook: Continued Successful Partnership
Building on the positive experience, Fricke and Nürmont plan to collaborate on future projects. The successful and efficient execution of this project demonstrated that both companies benefit from synergies, providing optimal support to their clients through this partnership. The success of this project lays the foundation for future collaborations and further development for both companies.
